Natural Remedies for Treating Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids, which are also known as piles, are veins in the lower anal carnal and rectum that are swollen. Once the walls of these vessels are stretched, they cause irritation. They can be referred to as internal or external hemorrhoids depending on whether they occur on the inside or the outside of the anal canal or rectum. Hemorrhoids have become a very common problem around the world and there are some natural remedies that one can use to treat the condition. These natural remedies include;

Witch hazel

This natural remedy is well known for reducing the pain, itching as well as bleeding until the hemorrhoids go away. It can also reduce the swelling since it is a natural anti-inflammatory. Witch hazel contains tannins and oils that can be applied directly to the hemorrhoids. It can be found in liquid form as well as other products such as soaps.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera tends to have anti-inflammatory properties that assist in calming the inflammation of hemorrhoids. For a long period of time, it has been used to treat various skin conditions and is a safe natural remedy. It is advisable that one uses pure aloe vera gel that can be obtained from the inside of the leaves of an aloe vera plant.

Epsom salt

Epsom salt can be used in different ways to help in the treatment of painful hemorrhoids. One can make a compound by mixing Epsom salt and glycerin which can then be directly applied to the painful area. This natural remedy is further recommended by doctors and can be accompanied by warm baths to soothe the irritation. It is recommended that one takes a warm bath after every bowel movement. Epsom salts should be added to the bath to help in reducing the pain.

One can apply cold compresses or packs of ice to the swollen areas for a period of around 15 minutes to relieve the swelling. This remedy is highly effective for painful hemorrhoids. Ice should be wrapped inside a towel or cloth before applying it to the skin and should not be applied directly.

Psyllium husk

This is a natural remedy that acts as a supplement to increase the fiber intake as well as soften the stool to allow for easier passage. This remedy is mainly used to soften the stool and reduce the pain when having bowel movements. However, one should remember to take a lot of water when using this supplement to avoid other complications such as stomach cramping.

Apple cider vinegar

This natural home remedy is well known to bring pain relief to hemorrhoids that are instant. It also reduces the itching and swelling up of vessels. However, it is important to note that overusing the apple cider vinegar will bring up other problems such as the burning of the skin.
